In the 2016 Australia Day Honours List Melissa was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her "significant service to the community through representational roles with a range of charitable groups, and to the broadcast media."

The founder of Queenhood- a dream team of women; Elka has created a vibrant community uniting women everywhere.
A medallist at every major meet World championships, Olympic games, Commonwealth games, Elka became the first woman in the world to win the 100/ 200/ 400/ 800m freestyle at the world cup championship in 2002. With over 25 Australian titles to her name and a professional swimming career that spanned two Olympics and 7 years.
Elka is the president of Sydney University Sports and fitness swim club.
